CLARION — After the first day of wrestling at the 2024 District 9 Wrestling Championship, the Curwensville Golden Tide have three wrestlers in Saturday morning’s 10:00 AM semifinals.
They also have two alive in the consolation bracket fighting for a top-4 finish so they can advance to next weekend’s North West Regional Tournament in Sharon.
The Tide are in ninth place, out of 16 teams, with 31.5 points.
All number three seeds, the Tide wrestlers looking to land a spot in Saturday evening’s Championship Finals are junior 107 pounder Austin Gilliland (22-12), and seniors Logan Aughenbaugh (36-6) at 172 and Trenton Guiher (26-12) at 215.
Alive in the wrestlebacks are junior Alex Murawski (23-14) at 189 and sophomore Brooks Hendershot (14-13) at 285.
Going 0-2 and ending their careers were seniors Trenton Clyde (3-19) at 145 and Jarett Anderson (9-16) at 152.
Finishing their seasons were sophomores Noah Pentz (12-21) at 121, Cooper Haag (7-26) at 127, and Sammy Gustafson (5-16) at 160.
Aughenbaugh needs to pick up two more wins on the season to reach his milestone 100th career victory.
The Tide went 5-12 on the evening and will look to improve upon last year’s seventh spot in the team standings.
