PennDOT, Highway Safety Network, State Farm and Local Pizzerias Urge Designated Driving

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Highway Safety Network and State Farm partnered with pizzerias in several counties to urge designated driving ahead of the match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

The partnership coincides with a national impaired driving enforcement campaign starting Wednesday and continuing through Sunday, Feb. 11.

The following locations will participate in a box-top advertising campaign encouraging fans to “play it safe” by being a designated driver on Feb. 11:

“Be responsible next weekend,” said State Farm Agent Kim McDonald.

“At State Farm, the safety of the members in our communities is our top priority and keeping them safe from impaired driver crashes starts with everyone making the responsible choice to designate a sober driver.

“We’re thankful to be a part of this partnership with PennDOT, the Highway Safety Network, and these local businesses to spread this important message.”

State Farm funded the purchase of the flyers by way of its Good Neighbor Citizenship Company Grants. They award these grants to build safer, stronger, and better-educated communities across the United States by focusing on safety, education and community development.

Whether you plan to watch the game at your favorite local eatery or host your own party, PennDOT urges responsible party hosting and offers the following tips.

According to 2023 preliminary PennDOT data, there were 56 drinking driver crashes statewide on Super Bowl Sunday to 6 a.m. the following morning, an increase of 10 from 2022. There was one fatality in those crashes.
