HOUTZDALE — One of the unique things for the Curwensville Lady Tide on the hardwood the last few years has been that they get an opportunity to potentially play one team on three different occasions. It is common that no matter the sport, being able to beat one team three times is a challenge. The Lady Tide have faced off with the Moshannon Valley Lady Damsels twice before, once in the P-O Holiday tournament, and the second inside Patton Hall. The third came Monday night inside the Moshannon Valley High School.
The Lady Tide played one of their best games of the year, battling for all 32 minutes. However, the Lady Damsels would pull out a 44-35 win to give Curwensville the third loss against the same team, dropping their record to 0-18 on the year.
Neither team had a lot of scoring in the opening stanza, with the Lady Damsels only holding a one-point lead after eight minutes, 6-5. The second quarter would go much better for Moshannon Valley, as they would double up the scoring output against Curwensville, taking a 16-10 lead into halftime. The low-scoring game surprised many, especially considering how the first two games went between the two squads.
Curwensville would have a strong return from the locker room, cutting into the lead at many points. Moshannon Valley would hold on to still maintain a three-possession lead at 31-22.
It was just enough as the Lady Damsels and the Lady Tide battled to a draw in the final quarter, each scoring 13 points, giving Moshannon Valley the 9-point win.
Ella Berg would lead all scoring, bucketing 15 points for Moshannon Valley, with Riley Wharton adding in another 10 points in the victory. For Curwensville, Natalie Wischuck would account for 13 points.
Curwensville has a day to rest and get set to be back on the court, this time playing host to Purchase Line on Wednesday night. Tip-off inside Patton Hall will be at 6:30 p.m.
