DUBOIS – No new taxes are on the horizon for residents of Sandy Township in 2024.
During Monday night’s meeting, the township’s board of supervisors reviewed its budget draft for the upcoming year.
It was noted the township plans to “hold the line” on taxes while maintaining its current level of services.
The supervisors—as of Monday—expect to finish the current year with a deficit of $37,913.37, the first deficit since 2018.
From 2019 through 2022, the township has experienced an annual average surplus of $250,000, they said.
In other matters, the supervisors accepted the lone bid for audit work for the next two years with the option open for a third year.
It was noted that work will cover 2023 and 2024; however, the third year—2025—would need authorization from the new consolidated City of DuBois, if consolidation continues on the projected timeframe.
Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh also reported the township has been notified that DuBois City does not intend to contest the township’s attempt to pause consolidation.
Currently the township is also applying for a $1 million-plus grant to complete roadwork, including a bike lane, on a portion of Platt Road.
The bicycle lane will be divided from the automobile traffic by a painted line.
The supervisors reminded that the township will start its leaf collection on Oct. 23, and it will run through Nov. 14. Leaves should be bagged but left untied as township employees will empty the bags.
