KYLERTOWN – A local man is charged for a police pursuit that reportedly caused a crash with injury to the passenger of his motorcycle.
Brandon J. Hummel, 27, of Morrisdale is charged by Clearfield state police with felony fleeing/attempting to elude an officer; misdemeanor failure to notify police of accident, injury or death; and four summaries. For this, he’s incarcerated at Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
According to the affidavit filed with the Kylertown magistrate’s office, troopers were in Chester Hill Borough on Aug. 8 investigating a suspicious motorcycle with no license plate.
The motorcycle was parked near a Hill Street address that Hummel was known to frequent. At the time, there was a felony warrant for Hummel out PSP Clearfield.
Hummel was also a suspect in multiple other theft investigations, the affidavit states, and state police were surveilling the area when they saw the motorcycle departing.
It turned onto Walton Street (state Route 53) and troopers identified Hummel as the operator. He also had a rear female passenger.
A traffic stop was attempted with emergency lights and sirens; however, Hummel reportedly failed to stop and continued onto East Maple Street.
State police say the intersection of East Maple and South Centre streets was uneven and due to Hummel’s speed, his passenger “dismounted,” falling off the motorcycle and causing injury.
“Hummel continued to flee and did not stop or report the crash,” the affidavit states. Troopers lost sight of Hummel when they stopped to help his passenger.
Hummel was involved in another pursuit Aug. 11 while operating a 10-foot U-Haul truck. He was apprehended and the truck searched, leading to the discovery of the motorcycle on which he fled Aug. 8.
In another case, Hummel is charged with felony theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, plus one summary. For this, bail is $500,000.
According to a station-issued news release, Hummel on Aug. 7 stole a 2008 Honda dirt bike from Wallaceton Road in Morris Township.
Hummel is currently scheduled to appear for preliminary hearings in both cases Aug. 23 during centralized court.
