Continuing and Community Education at Penn State DuBois is preparing to offer several courses during the 2023-2024 academic year to help those who work within human resource (HR) management. The sessions include:

Generative artificial intelligence; supporting your work and maintaining EEOC compliance

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is among the top trends in human resource management around the world today. For large and small organizations alike, staying current with trends can have many benefits for HR professionals.

In this one-day course, attendees will learn how to make the power of artificial intelligence work for them when developing job postings, reviewing resumes and constructing HR content for their organization. In addition, representatives from PA CareerLink and Workforce Solutions for North Central PA will be present to share information on local resources to help you grow your workforce.

There will be two separate sessions of this course offered, one at Penn State DuBois and one in St. Marys. The session at Penn State DuBois will take place on Sept. 26, while the session in St. Marys will happen at the Community Education Center on Sept. 28. Both sessions will begin at 1 p.m. The cost for this course is $99 per participant.

Individuals or organizations wishing to register for the generative AI course, contact Continuing and Community Education at Penn State DuBois via email or phone at 814-375-4836.

Society of human resource management learning system and essentials of HR courses

Two of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) training courses are being offered by Penn State DuBois, in partnership with Penn State Scranton. Both the SHRM Learning System course and the SHRM Essentials course are instructor-led courses being offered online via Zoom.

SHRM offers the new certification standard for the HR profession. Earning your SHRM-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP™) or SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP™) credential establishes you as a recognized expert in the HR field. The SHRM Learning System course consists of 39 hours of virtual classroom instruction, including a review prior to the new certification exam. In addition to the classroom experience, you will receive SHRM Learning System materials and access to online learning, legislative updates and practice tests.

The SHRM Learning System course will be offered on Thursdays from Sept. 7 through Dec. 7, with no class taking place on Nov. 23. Classes will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each scheduled Thursday.

SHRM Essentials provides participants with knowledge and skills that can be used immediately. The course addresses six key human resource subjects in a user-friendly format designed to give an effective learning experience. This course is ideal for those who are just starting out in the human resources profession, or those who are looking for an effective way to boost their employee management skills.

The SHRM Essentials course will take place on Thursdays in 2024, beginning on May 2 and running through May 23. Classes will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each scheduled Thursday.

Individuals or organizations wishing to register participants for either of the SHRM course, contact Continuing and Community Education at Penn State DuBois via email or phone at 814-375-4836.
