CURWENSVILLE – In her first varsity start in the home circle, freshman Addison Siple recorded her first career no-hitter while getting the run support of her teammates in a 7-0 victory over Williamsburg Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Tide collected 10 hits from seven different batters to plate their seven runs. Meanwhile, Siple mowed down 14 Lady Blue Pirate batters while walking no one. Williamsburg was able to put two runners on base the entire game. In the first three games of the season, Siple has recorded 40 strike outs while allowing just four total hits.
“It was nearly a perfect game,” said Curwensville Head Coach Allen Leigey. “We had two throwing errors at first base, otherwise, it’s perfect.”
The Curwensville scoring started in the second inning when, with one out, Addison Warren was able to steal a base after a third strike was dropped. Ava Olosky then singled to center and Warren dashed to third on the play. Olosky stole second and moved to third when Ava Hainsey singled to center to drive in the first run. Olosky scored moments later on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Sydney Simcox.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hainsey went back to work with a two-out single to plate Siple, who drew a walk earlier in the frame.
The 3-0 lead doubled in the fifth inning with four consecutive hits. Sophomores Natalie Wischuck and Addison Butler opened the frame with a single each. Senior Shyanne Rudy tripled home two runs and scored herself as classmate Teagan Harzinski singled her home.
The final Lady Tide run came home after one out in the sixth inning. Simcox set the table with a triple and was knocked in by Wischuck’s second hit.
“I’m just so pleased with the way this team has been attacking the ball at the plate,” Leigey said. “It’s almost scary how good this team can be. We just have to keep convincing ourselves that we are good.”
Curwensville (2-1 overall, and 1-1 in the ICC) will host Bellwood-Antis on Tuesday in a 4:30 start.
