Tide Falls to Warriors 32-31

By Matthew Gosnell

ALLPORT- Yet another football Friday for the Curwensville Golden Tide varsity squad, as they took on the West Branch Warriors.  Fans from both sides of the ball would be treated to a back-and-forth contest that saw both squads trade the lead on a couple occasions.

This night fell the way of the Warriors, holding on for a tight 32-31 victory.

The Warriors started off strong with star player Tyler Biggins running the ball bringing the Warriors closer and closer to the end zone.

Biggins would end up running the ball to the end zone early on for a Warriors touchdown bringing them up 6-0 over the Tide.

Curwensville Golden Tide senior quarterback Danny McGary then completed a pass to Chris Fegert, which led to a touchdown, and the extra point gave Curwensville the one-point lead.

The Warriors would answer near the midpoint of the first quarter with another touchdown by Tyler Biggins putting West Branch up 12-7.

Nearing the end point of the first quarter, Curwensville would wind-up getting another touchdown with West Branch snagging one up a few minutes after, the Warriors would lead Curwensville 18-13.

Biggins would be back at it with a major gain of yards for the Warriors squad, with another touchdown in the second quarter, which brought them up another eight points courtesy of the two-point conversion, with the score now 26-13.

After a few more pass attempts and completions the Tide were able to come back just a little bit, but the Warriors still had a major lead by the end of the quarter with another touchdown pass by Biggins, with the score at the end of the first half being 32-19.

In the third quarter with a solid kickoff West Branch hands the ball off to Curwensville, which after a slate of passes, would cost the Warriors 4 penalties down the line.

With a game of passes going it would end up getting the Tide another touchdown, by none other than senior quarterback Danny McGary, pulling the Tide to within one score.

West Branch held the 32-25 advantage heading into the fourth, but the Tide were feeling the momentum.

Now to the 4 the quarter the Warriors started off very strong with multiple completed passes, which led to yard gains, especially by Tyler Biggins and Wyatt Schwaderskie. After a few good attempts by West Branch, the Tide squad was able to take back possession of the ball.

That down the line would lead Curwensville to another touchdown, but the missed PAT put the Tide down by one.

In the end, that is as close as the Tide would get, falling to their rival.

The next game for the Golden Tide is at home Friday, October 7 against Moshannon Valley.
