EXPLOREJEFFERSON: Reynoldsville Man Behind Bars for Allegedly Punching Woman in Face Multiple Times, Strangling Her

REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A Reynoldsville man is in jail after reportedly punching a woman in the face multiple times and strangling her during a domestic dispute.

According to court documents, DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against 39-year-old James Anthony Neal in Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office on April 5.

According to a criminal complaint, DuBois-based State Police were dispatched to a residence on West Main Street, in Reynoldsville Borough, Jefferson County, around 11:30 p.m., on April 4, to investigate a simple assault.

Upon arrival, police interviewed the girlfriend of James Neal, who told them that they became engaged in a verbal argument regarding one of her male friends. She informed the officer that she and Neal had both been drinking at the time of the incident.

During the argument, the victim told police that Neal struck her in the face with a closed fist several times and caused physical injury to her nose. Police observed fresh blood under both of her nostrils, the complaint states.

The victim related that she was knocked to the floor by the strike to the face. Neal then grabbed her by the neck and began to strangle her, the complaint indicates.

While interviewing the victim, police observed reddening around the neck. The victim was transported to Penn Highlands DuBois by DuBois EMS for medical evaluation of her injuries.

Neal was arraigned at 12:40 p.m. on April 5 in front of Judge Inzana on the following charges:

– Strangulation – Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $35,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. on April 26 with Judge Inzana presiding.
