LT Police Warn Local Business Owners of Scam

CLEARFIELD – Lawrence Township police are warning local business owners of a scam that’s hit the Clearfield area.

According to a department-issued news release, an employee of the Clearfield COGO’s Gas Station/Convenience Store was called by three individuals April 8.

The individuals claimed to be the store director, store manager and FedEx director and allegedly coerced the employee to close up and take money from the safe and PA Skills Machines to a bitcoin ATM.

They provided the employee QR codes for the deposit, saying it was necessary to pay FedEx for its delivery of items to help the store pass an OSHA inspection.

Police urge business owners to be aware of scam calls being received by their employees in attempt to obtain detailed business and employee information.
