FRENCHVILLE – Visit the scenic and peaceful Bethany Retreat Center in Frenchville for a weekend retreat to observe and discover deeper truths about the natural and spiritual worlds through poetry.
Led by award-winning author and Lock Haven English professor, Marjorie Maddox, “The Path of Poetry as Spiritual Practice” will be held April 22 through April 24.
Join this group on this path of observation, reflection, laughter, empathy, enlightenment—and writing. No prior poetry experience is needed; this workshop will provide a way in for you.
Visit bethanyretreatcenter.org or call 814-263-4855 to learn more about the retreat and to register.
Maddox lives with her husband, Lycoming College English Professor Gary Hafer, in Williamsport, Pa., the home of the Little League World Series.
She is the great grandniece of Branch Rickey, the general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, who helped break the color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to Major League Baseball.
Maddox has twice served as visiting author at the Little League World Series and twice read at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
In addition to writing, reading and teaching, she enjoys the outdoors and loves blueberries. She published her first poem in Campfire Girl Magazine at the age of eight and hasn’t looked back since.
