Billotte 4th, Chamberlain 8th for Bison at AAA State Wrestling

HERSHEY — Making it to Saturday night’s championship round was a big accomplishment for Clearfield Bison wrestlers Oliver Billotte and Carter Chamberlain.

Neither came away victorious in their final match, but that didn’t takeaway from excellent seasons, and the career for the senior Billotte, from either of them.

Billotte made it to the bronze medal match with a pin of Williamsport’s Charles Crews Saturday morning in the consy semifinals. Crews had defeated Billotte three times previously this season. That set Billotte up with Quakertown senior Frederick Retter (41-5). After a scoreless first period, Billotte was on bottom to start the second period. He never made it out, as Retter picked up the fall 51 seconds into the period.

Oliver Billotte – 4th in the state at 285

Billotte finished his senior season with a record of 33-5, with all five losses coming to wrestlers who placed in the top-6 in the state. He also finished as a three-time state qualifier and two-time medalist, placing eighth in 2020. His career record was 107-26, with 66 pins to his credit.

Just a sophomore, Chamberlain made his Hershey debut a successful one, going home with the eighth place medal. In the seventh place match, Chamberlain met up, once again with Trey Shoemaker, a senior from Mifflin County. Shoemaker (39-6) had major decisioned Chamberlain twice this past season, one being just last week in the regional final. The resulting loss was the same, but this time by only a 4-1 margin. They were scoreless after one period, but Shoemaker reversed in the second and picked up two nearfall points in the third.

Chamberlain concluded his sophomore year with a 30-11 record and 22 falls, and a two year overall record of 45-21.

Overall, the Bison went 9-11 at states and placed 14th overall with 38 points. District 11’s Nazareth won the team title with 135 points.

Billotte’s and Chamberlain’s medals will be the last AAA medals that Clearfield will receive in the foreseeable future, as the Bison will drop down to AA beginning with the 2022-23 wrestling season.

State College’s Pierson Manville, the 138 pound champion, was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.
