Fullington Trailways Outlines Modification, Reduction to Bus Schedule

STATE COLLEGE – The last two years have been challenging for Fullington Trailways.

“In late 2021, we learned via a PennDOT Request for Proposal (RFP) that our daily departures (line-runs) were being consolidated,” explained Jonathan Berzas, president and chief executive officer

“Their decision to reduce daily routes was based on budget constraints and also on an audit conducted by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

“On the bright side, Fullington Trailways was the successful bidder of the majority of the routes PennDOT proposed.  The unfortunate news is the RFP outline reduced the service levels throughout the state.

“In certain cases, the reduction was by 50 percent, and in other cases, community’s service was completely discontinued.”

Fullington Trailways challenged the state’s decisions throughout the entire process, Berzas stated, noting it became clear that due to budgetary constraints Fullington Trailways wouldn’t be able to retain certain existing daily routes going forward.

Greyhound was awarded the remaining routes with a reduction of service to its system, as well, he said.

“We regret that we will be unable to serve some rural communities we have so enjoyed providing safe and reliable transportation to for so many years.”

No employees should be adversely affected by this reduction in services, Berzas stated.

The modified and reduced bus service will be effective as of April 1 and is as follows:
