Six Golden Tide Wrestlers to Compete at North West AA Regional

SHARON — Six Curwensville Golden Tide wrestlers have their sights set on making it to the PIAA AA State Wrestling Championships in Hershey when they hit the mats in Sharon High School this Friday and Saturday for the North West Regional Tournament.

The top-4 at each weight class from Sharon will advance to the Giant Center in Hershey on March 10.

106 pound junior Damian Brady (26-9), the District 9 fourth place finisher will meet Cochranton junior Kyle Lantz (25-10), the fifth place finisher out of District 10, in the first round. The winner will have their hands full in the quarterfinals as they’ll meet defending state champion Louie Gill (36-1) from Hickory.

Senior 113 pounder Jacob Carfley (21-6) has a first round bye because of his District 9 runner-up status, and will meet the winner of the Carter Wise (24-8) from Mercer versus Isaiah Bayle (21-21) of Corry match in the quarterfinals.

Nik Fegert (23-10), the district 9 bronze medalist at 132, will meet up with Corry senior Damion Kinney (22-16), the District 10 eighth place finisher in their first round match up.

In his first round match, senior Zach Shaffer (17-14), the fourth place finisher last week at 145, will meet sophomore Lloyd Fountain (29-13), a fifth place District 10 placer from Northwestern

District 9 champion Logan Aughenbaugh (22-6) will receive a first round bye and then awaits the winner of the Clay Thomas (30-10) from Union City and Luke Gentile (21-15) match for his 152 pound quarterfinal bout.

And lastly, Tide 189 pound sophomore Alex Shaffer (17-11) will meet up with Northwestern junior Ben Campbell (24-13), the eighth place finisher from District 10.
