JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – Charges against a Punxsutawney man who was reportedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine and other drugs were waived for court on Tuesday.
Court documents indicate the following charges against 42-year-old Daniel Lee Mowry were waived for court during a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock on Tuesday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m:
– Possession of Controlled Substance, Felony (10 counts)
– Manufacture Etc. Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor
– Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor (10 counts)
The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.
The case stems from a reported parole violation in November of last year.
Details of the case:
According to a criminal complaint, Punxsutawney Borough Police were called by a state parole agent around 12:17 p.m. on November 23 to respond to a residence on Park Avenue for a reported Act 64 (controlled substance) violation.
Police proceeded to the residence where they were met by state parole agents who were performing a home visit on a parolee identified as Daniel Mowry.
When the agents knocked on the door, Lorri Shankle answered it and indicated that Mowry was not home, the complaint states.
The agents then asked to check the residence for Mowry and subsequently located him in an upstairs bedroom, hiding next to the bed under a sheet, the complaint indicates.
Mowry reportedly told the agents he was hiding because he was “scared,” and when asked why he was scared, he told the agents he was on methamphetamine, according to the complaint.
The agents then searched the area and found a purple bag next to the bed, which both Mowry and Shankle reportedly claimed, the complaint notes.
According to the complaint, the bag was found to contain two scales, seven baggies containing methamphetamine residue, two glass pipes, marijuana and a grinder, papers and a prescription bottle with a known woman’s name on it with 56 prescription pills (Schedule One) inside, green cases with two pipes, and a baggie containing methamphetamine.
Mowry was subsequently transported to SCI Smithfield by the parole agents.
Charges were filed against both individuals through Judge Mizerock’s office on December 8, 2021.
