Three Bison Earn Top Seeds for District 4/9 Wrestling Championships

Clearfield has four semifinalists

HYDE — After a very successful season, in which they went 15-1 overall and were undefeated in regular season duals, the Clearfield Bison turn their attention to the individual post season starting on Saturday in the Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium.

The District 4/9 AAA Championship will see eight teams (Bradford, Clearfield, DuBois, Punxsutawney, Selinsgrove, Shikellamy, St. Marys, and Williamsport) vying for the combined district crown that District 4’s Williamsport now owns. That will be no easy task to unseat the Millionaires as they have six returning champions and eight number one seeds. Clearfield returns one champion, but five runners-up, and has three number one seeds. The final two number one seeds belong to St. Marys.

The obvious goal of each team is to advance as many as they can to the North West Regional Tournament in Altoona the following weekend. The top-4 in each weight class will move on. The rest will see their 2021-22 season come to an end.

If the seeds hold true, and they never do, Clearfield would send 10 of 13 wrestlers on to regionals.

Clearfield’s top seeds are freshman Brady Collins (28-3) at 126, and seniors Nolan Barr (19-12) at 138 and Hayden Kovalick (28-2) at 215.

Runner-up seeds belong to seniors Mark McGonigal (24-7) at 172 and Oliver Billotte (25-1), and sophomore Carter Chamberlain (23-7) at 189. Billotte’s next win would be his 100th career win.

Number three seeds belong to junior Evan Davis (23-8) at 113 and senior Luke Freeland (18-11) at 145.

Getting a fourth seed are sophomore Adam Rougeux (11-12) at 120 and freshman Ty Aveni (12-8) at 132.

Needing to move up one spot to advance to Altoona from his fifth seed is freshman 106 pounder Xavier Lutz (6-9). Senior Karson Kline (16-11) is the six seed at 152 and fellow senior Wyatt Reorda (5-8) is the seven seed at 160.

Williamsport’s top seeds are Cal Nasdeo (25-3), a returning PIAA state runner-up, at 113, Luke Segraves (13-19) at 120, Braden Bower (30-2) at 132, Riley Bower (37-7) at 145, Carter Weaver (25-12), Roman Morrone (28-9) at 160. Sebastian Robinson (29-13) at 189, and Charles Crews (32-6) at 285.

The two top seeds from St. Marys are 106 pounder Aiden Beimel (22-3) and Waylon Wehler (26-2) at 172.
