BROCKWAY — The Curwensville Golden Tide wrestling team ended the regular season on a high note, knocking off the Brockway Rovers on their home mat.
The two teams split four forfeits and there was no match at 113 pounds. Out of eight contested bouts, the Tide won five to Brockway’s three, launching the Tide to the 33-30 victory.
The Tide ended the dual meet season with a 16-5 record, while Brockway, who defeated Redbank Valley 49-21 in a rare 2-match night earlier in the evening, ended their season 13-4.
The match started at 132, where Mark Palmer (25-7) received a forfeit.
The Tide then ran off a five match win streak to storm back to turn a 6-0 deficit into a 21-6 advantage.
Nike Fegert (20-9) had the biggest win of the night, knocking off Parker Pisarchick (25-8) by a 7-2 score at 138.
Zach Shaffer (15-12) won a toss-up match at 145 against Dylan Bash (16-12) to even the match at six.
The Tide took the lead for good at 152 when Logan Aughenbaugh (19-6) had a first period fall over Blake Pisarchick (15-15).
At 160, JD Strong (3-10) picked up the Tide’s first forfeit, and then Chase Irwin (18-12) kept the Tide momentum rolling with a narrow 8-6 win over Jack Smith (11-8) at 172.
The two teams split the next four matches, enabling the Tide to mathematically clinch the match after the “no bout” at 113.
Brockway’s Seth Stewart (27-6) pinned Alex Shaffer (14-10) at 189, while the Tide’s Trenton Guiher (17-9) returned the favor at 215 by pinning Garrett Faust (3-10).
Gavin Thompson’s (28-3) fall at 285 over Grady Hoyt (1-5) set the score at 27-18 in favor of the Tide while Damian Brady’s (24-7) forfeit at 106 clinched the match.
After neither team was able to send out a 113 pounder, Weston Pisarchick (28-2) pinned the Tide’s Jake Carfley (20-5) in a marquee match-up at 120.
The forfeit to Colton Ross (12-9) at 126 ended the match with a 33-30 final in favor of the visitors.
Both teams will know prep for the individual post season, which begins with the District 9 AA Championships at Clarion University on February 26.
