Curwensville Wins Season Finale over Juniata Valley in Boys Hoops, 49-45

CURWENSVILLE – The Golden Tide ended their 2021-22 season in style with a season split with the Juniata Valley Hornets in a 49-45 comeback win Wednesday evening at Curwensville Area High School.

After falling 56-43 back on January 7 to the Hornets, the Golden Tide were determined to end their campaign on a positive note. Trailing by five at the half and by one going into the final eight minutes, Curwensville ended the game on a 13-8 run to come away with the come-from-behind win that was led by seven fourth quarter points by senior guard Ty Terry.

After the first-period of play, the game was knotted at 15 all, but the Hornets were able to go on a run and gain some momentum in the second quarter to take a 27-22 lead into the halftime break.

After the intermission, Curwensville found their stride little-by-little as they chipped away at the lead with a 14-10 quarter in favor of them in the third, and the solid 13-8 run to end the game to win a tight one by four at 49-45.

Terry led the Curwensville offense with a team-high 18 points in the narrow victory. Joining Terry in double-figures was Davis Fleming who finished with 12 points to his credit. Danny McGarry narrowly missed out on double-figures with eight points, as teammate Parker Wood followed him with six tallies. Rounding out the scoring was Grant Swanson who nailed a three pointer, and Ayden Sutika who scored two on the evening.

For the visiting Juniata Valley Hornets, they were led in scoring by Christopher Deihl who scored a game-high 21 points, including a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Reid Edwards followed with eight points on the night, with teammate Connor Robinson scoring six. Elias McFadden netted five for the Hornets in the loss, with Nathan Soder rounding out the scoring with a two-point field goal for the game.

The win enabled Curwensville improve to 6-16, while the visiting Juniata Valley Hornets fell to 5-16 for the season. Wednesday’s contest wraps up the 2021-22 season for boys basketball at Curwensville Area High School, a season that featured some individual milestones and ended on a great note with a comeback win in front of the home faithful on Wednesday night.
