NEW BETHLEHEM — The host Redbank Valley Bulldogs won four out of the first five matches, three by forfeit, but the visiting Curwensville Golden Tide won the last eight, two by forfeit, to come away with a 46-24 road victory.
The Tide upped their season record to 15-5 on the year, while the Bulldogs dipped to 10-9.
The match started at 285, where RBV’s Gabriel Carroll (16-8) pinned the Tide’s Grady Hoyt (1-4).
106 Pounder for the Tide Damian Brady (23-7) evened the match score at six with his first period fall over Aidan McAnuly (8-13).
The score ballooned to 24-6 in favor of the hosts when Curwensville was unable to send anyone out at the next three weight classes, giving Danial Evans (22-8), Cole Bish (22-5), and Ridge Cook (21-4) easy victories.
When the match resumed at 132, Ryder Kuklinske (20-8) started what would turn out to be an eight bout win streak for the Tide to close out the match with his major decision over Levi Schick (6-10).
Nik Fegert (19-9) earned first period fall over Jacob Kundick (4-10) at 138 pounds.
Zach Shaffer (14-12) matched Fegert with a first period fall over Drew Downs (1-12) at 145, drawing the Tide within two at 24-22.
A forfeit victory to Logan Aughenbaugh (18-6) at 152 gave the Tide the lead that they would not relinquish.
JD Strong (3-10) took a 6-2 regular decision over Drew Byers (0-6) at 160 and Chase Irwin’s (17-12) second period fall over Johnathan Slack (6-16) at 172 sealed the Tide team victory as the lead was now 37-24 with two bouts to go.
And the Tide, of course won both of those. First Alex Shaffer (14-9), at 189, received the Tide’s second forfeit, and Trenton Guiher (16-9) closed out the night with a nice 3-1 win over Carsen Rupp (20-4) at 215.
The Tide close out the regular season with a trip Brockway on Thursday night to face the Rovers (12-3).
