Bison Matmen Sink Dutch in Regular Season Finale

HYDE — After being postponed earlier in the season, the Clearfield Bison wrestling team finally hosted the St. Marys Flying Dutch, and the home team was no match for their District IX foes, posting a 54-12 dual meet victory.

The teams traded forfeits at the start of the match with St. Marys’s Aiden Beimel (22-3) picking up the easy six points at 106 pounds and Clearfield’s Xavier Lutz (6-9) getting six right back for the Bison at 113.

The Bison’s Evan Davis (23-8) earned six more team points on the mat at 120 when he locked up a cradle and pinned Cole Neil 14-11) in 2:46 to give the Bison a 12-6 lead.

Brady Collins (28-3) and Ty Aveni (12-8) were also recipients of forfeits at 126 and 132 to up the Bison lead to 24-6.

At 138 pounds, Clearfield’s Nolan Barr (19-12) earned his own six points with a second period fall over Jayden Wehler (5-7) , putting the hosts up, 30-6.

In the longest bout of the night, Luke Freeland (18-11) was able to score the winning point in the ultimate tiebreaker overtime period at 145 with a 30-second ride out to defeat St. Marys’s Andrew Wolfanger (20-6), 5-4.

At 152 pounds, Clearfield’s Karson Kline (16-11) pitched a 7-0 shutout over Kaden Snelick (11-8) , to increase the Bison lead to 36-6.

St. Marys finally earned their first team points of the dual meet on the mat when Isaac Dellaquilla (14-12) bested the Bison’s Wyatt Reorda (5-8), 6-3, in a hard fought contest at 160 pounds. 

The Dutch made it two wins in a row, as Waylon Wehler (26-2) downed Mark McGonigal (24-7) by the same 6-3 score to put the team score at 36-12 after 172.

The Bison ran the table after that with two quick pins and a forfeit to make the final score 54-12.

Carter Chamberlain (23-7) built a quick 11-0 lead before flattening Hunter Chillelli (3-9) in 1:08 at 189.

Hayden Kovalick (28-2) followed at 215 pounds with a lightning quick decking of Ethan Ott (2-11) in just eight seconds.

Oliver Billotte (28-1) ended the dual meet at 285, receiving a forfeit to close out the regular season for a 15-1 dual meet mark for the Bison. Billotte’s career win total reached 99 with the forfeit.

The Dutch dropped to 9-4 with the loss.

The wrestlers will hit the mats again, starting their post-season journeys to Hershey, on February 26 when Clearfield High School hosts the District 4/9 AAA Championship.
