Lady Tide Soar Past Visiting Harmony

CURWENSVILLE — Just a day prior, in one of the most challenging evenings of basketball one could remember, the Curwensville had to play a game and a half against one opponent. Patton Hall got to witness six quarters of action that night, and the day of rest for everyone was much needed. Considering the fact the game Friday night against the Lady Owls of Harmony was going to start earlier due to no junior varsity, the girls were eager to get back to action.

A game that was tight early on soon saw the home squad turn up the tempo and run away with a 48-30 victory, just the sixth win on the year for the Lady Tide.

The Owls kept things interesting through the first half, as Sherri Kephart did most of the scoring for the visiting squad. The lone Harmony player in double digits, finishing with a game-high 18, put up 15 through the first two quarters. However, Curwensville’s Skylar Pentz put up a trio of three’s, to help keep Curwensville in the game. Eventually, the Tide took a 15-12 lead after one.

Both squads battled hard in the second frame as well, with Curwensville still keeping ahead thanks to Alyssa Bakaysa getting hot, putting up seven of the team’s 15 points.

Harmony kept it close in the quarter, but still went into halftime down by five.

The third quarter ultimately saw everything go wrong for the visitors, and everything right for the home squad. Defensively, the Lady Tide adjusted well, contested shots, and kept the Lady Owls off the scoreboard.

Pentz led the scoring in the quarter, finishing as one of two Lady Tide that hit double figures. Bakaysa led the squad with 17 points, while Pentz added in another 16.

As the fourth quarter continued, the Curwensville coaches allowed the starters to get a curtain call and come off the court to let the younger class take over and finish the night.

There’s even less time to prepare as the Lady Tide (6-13) have a rare Saturday appearance as they will travel to face Juniata Valley. This game was to be played on February 3, but due to the winter weather and ice that came into the area the game was moved. Tip off will be at 1:15 p.m.
