Curwensville Man Sentenced to 24 Months in Prison for Unlawfully Possessing Ammunition

JOHNSTOWN – A Curwensville man has been sentenced in federal court to a total of 24 months in prison and three years’ supervised release on his conviction of unlawful possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, U.S. Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today.

Senior U.S. District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the sentence on Chancellor M. Shaw Walter, 27.

According to information presented to the court, on Sept. 16, 2019, Shaw was found in possession of ammunition. On June 26, 2018, Shaw was convicted in the Court of Common Pleas of Clearfield County of the crimes of flight to avoid apprehension and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, which are crimes punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.

Federal law prohibits persons who have been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year from possessing ammunition.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

Chung commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pennsylvania State Police for the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of Shaw.
