Williamsburg Girls Hoops Defends Home Floor in Win Over Visiting Curwensville

WILLIAMSBURG – The Williamsburg Lady Pirates (14-5) took care of business at home and came away with a season sweep over the Curwensville Lady Tide (4-11) as Williamsburg cruised to a 71-25 victory Monday evening.

The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Tide back on Tuesday, January 11, and the same result was in order Monday evening as the home squad came ready to defend home court.

A 24-7 run to open the game set the tone for what was to come as the Lady Pirates scored double-digit points in each quarter, while holding the visitors to single digits in all four quarters.

All nine players found the scoring column for Williamsburg as balanced scoring, led by Ayla Hileman’s game-high 21 points, was one of the keys to the lopsided win. Joining Hileman for the home team with double-figures was Jayla Woodruff who netted 13 for the game.

Laney Prough scored all nine of her points for Williamsburg in the first quarter as she began the game with the hot-hand for the Lady Pirates offense. Following Prough with seven points was Jade Carper, while teammates Clair Carper and Kendel Norris each added six tallies.

Rounding out the scoring for Williamsburg was Anastasia Ranallli with five and Elise Frye and Krista Simpson who each scored two points.

At the half, the Lady Tide trailed 42-16 as senior Alyssa Bakaysa scored 11 of her 14 points for the game in the opening two quarters. It was an offensive struggle for Curwensville in this one, as the rest of the team combined to score just 11 points, with Skylar Pentz adding five of those tallies.

Addison Butler and Janelle Passmore added two points each, while teammates Savannah Carfley and Karleigh Freyer connected on one free throw each to round out the scoring for Curwensville.

It will be a short turnaround for the Lady Tide as the team is back on the road Tuesday to face Harmony in a make-up game originally scheduled for Monday, January 17. This will mark the first of two meetings between the programs in the 2021-22 season. This contest will be varsity only and is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
