CURWENSVILLE – Curwensville (3-11) was unable to defend their home court against the Mount Union Trojans (11-3) as the visiting team picked up the season sweep of the Golden Tide Friday night by a 66-40 final score.
The teams were tied at 12-12 after a first quarter that saw Danny McGarry net seven of his team high 20 points for the Golden Tide. However, the Trojans were able to get some momentum in the second with a 17-8 advantage in the period. After the first half, Curwensville trailed Mount Union 29-20.
The third quarter was the deciding one as Mount Union would not let Curwensville climb back into the game, holding the home team to just six points in the period while netting 19 of their own. Devin Delo scored eight of his game-high 26 points in the third quarter to pace the Trojans for the period. After three, Mount Union led Curwensville 48-26.
The fourth quarter featured the Golden Tide scoring their most of any quarter as Ty Terry buried two three pointers to end his night with another double-digit performance for the season with 14 points. However, it was not enough as Mount Union outscored the home team 18-14 in the fourth to come away with a 66-40 victory.
In addition to McGarry and Terry, Tory Condon, Braden Holland, and Tyler Lee each added one two-point bucket each for the Golden Tide.
For Mount Union, two additional double-digit scorers joined Delo with Jayvien Brumbaugh adding 17 and Bryce Danish with 10 for the Trojans.
The Golden Tide will return to action Tuesday, January 25, as they hit the road to take on Moshannon Valley. In the previous game this season, Curwensville came out on top 62-34.
Tuesday’s contests between Curwensville and Moshannon Valley will feature the junior-varsity game at 6:00 p.m. with the varsity game set for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
