BROCKWAY — It was against the Brockway Rovers just eight days earlier that the Curwensville Golden Tide got their defining win of the season. A 48-40 thriller that went into double-overtime that was the best game the Tide played on both offense and defense. That game also was the last time the Tide would see victory, as they would drop the next three on the schedule.
Friday night, the Rovers and Tide would meet up once more, this time on Brockway’s hardwood. What it did was give Brockway fuel to get revenge, and they did just that as Curwensville would drop its fourth consecutive game, this one by a 69-42 final.
The Tide would not get anything going in the first quarter, as their main shooter, Ty Terry, was held in check. But, that opened up chances for their big center, Parker Wood, to work inside. He would score eight of the team’s nine points in the quarter, but by limiting opportunities for the remainder of the squad, Curwensville looked up at a 14-9 deficit heading into the second quarter.
Wood would finish the night with a game-high 20 points.
While Curwensville struggled from the floor to get any momentum, the Rovers were spreading the ball to multiple players to get baskets. Of the 10 players on the roster for Brockway, only three failed to put up points. That posed problems for Curwensville as they could not key in on one player to defend.
The Tide managed to keep it close in the second quarter, and went into the locker room only down by seven. But, just like other games this season, the third quarter ended up being the downfall as the Tide came out flat, and could not recover.
For the Rovers, a quartet of players ultimately went into double figures. Jared Marchiori, Alex Carlson, and Noah Adams all put up 13 points each, while Dylan Coder put in another 11.
Now at the midway point of the season, Curwensville (3-8) only has two games slated for the upcoming week, both at home, starting with Wednesday night against the Harmony Owls. Tip off is at 6 p.m. for junior varsity, with the varsity action afterwards.
