HUNTINGDON – Huntingdon’s 8-0 run to start the game set the tone for the contest as the Lady Bearcats (5-6) defended home court over the Clearfield Lady Bison (4-6) in a 58-38 win Tuesday night.
While Clearfield tightened the game up in the first quarter, they were not able to fight their way back as Huntingdon’s offensive rebounding was relentless, a key factor that would help them continue to build on their lead over the game. Huntingdon held onto a 13 point advantage at 28-15 heading into the half, with Lily Fiscus showing her range in the period with two trey balls.
The halftime lead was one the Lady Bearcats were not content with as they exploded in the third quarter for 22 points, including 11 in the period from Alexis Troup who led all scorers in the game with 25 points. At the end of the third quarter, Huntingdon held a commanding 50-27 advantage.
The Lady Bison showed some fight in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Lady Bearcats 11-8 in the final eight minutes. Emma Hipps sunk half of her points in the final quarter as she paced the Lady Bison in the fourth with five points.
For Huntingdon, Troup was joined in double-figures for the game by Savanna Fiscus who scored 10 for the Lady Bearcats. Three more players added to the Huntingdon offense as Lily Barger added nine, Lily Fiscus added eight, and Jordyn Patrick chipped in six points.
The Lady Bison also had a pair of double-digit scorers to their credit as the post duo of Cayleigh Walker and Emma Hipps combined for 22 of the teams 38 points on the night. Walker led the Lady Bison with 12, while Hipps netted 10.
Three additional Clearfield players made their way into the scoring column in this one as Alayna Winters scored seven, Riley Ryen five, and Hannah Glunt four.
Clearfield will look to get back on track on Thursday, January 13 as they host the Lady Beavers of DuBois at the Clearfield Junior-Senior High School Gym. Junior-varsity will tip at 6:00 p.m. with the varsity game slated for 7:15 p.m.
