ALEXANDRIA — Coming off a strong overtime victory just days earlier, the Curwensville Golden Tide were feeling good about their chances heading on the road against the Juniata Valley Hornets. The trip to Alexandria was one that was cold, but not cold enough to keep the game from happening. With no Junior varsity contest to start the night, the varsity action would be the main event right away for those in attendance.
What they got was a contest that was close early. Curwensville’s momentum was halted as the Hornets put the sting on the Tide, 56-43, dropping Curwensville to 3-6 on the season.
The game got started with a tough back-and-forth battle in the opening stanza, but the Hornets came out ahead by six. It was the second quarter when Juniata Valley imposed its will, doubling up the Tide to take a 31-18 advantage into the halftime break.
Curwensville was paced by Ty Terry, who had the game-high scoring output of 24 points. However, Curwensville could not follow up that output as the remainder of the team only managed single digit scoring. Terry was the only Curwensville player to have an opportunity at the foul line all game long, going 3-for-4.
The Tide emerged from halftime strong, and would win the third quarter by a 16-13 margin, but it was not enough to overcome the struggles in the second frame.
The Hornets saw three players go into double figures, with Elias McFadden (16), Christopher Deihl (13) and Connor Robinson (12) all pacing Juniata Valley.
Curwensville will not have much time to recover as they have three games slated next week, beginning on Monday when they travel to Williamsburg. There will be a junior varsity game to start the night, tipping at 6 p.m. Varsity will follow.
