Golden Tide Hoops Snaps Recent Skid in 48-40 Overtime Win Over Brockway

CURWENSVILLE – The Golden Tide (3-5) desperately needed a win, and they found a way to get it Thursday evening as they were able to secure a 48-40 overtime victory against the visiting Brockway Rovers.

Coming into Thursday, the team had lost three straight games, but that recent streak came to an end as a strong first half, clutch shooting in the fourth quarter, and an 11-3 run in the overtime helped Curwensville come out on top.

Down 37-32 in the fourth, Curwensville really needed a bucket, and sophomore guard Andrew Wassil delivered in a big way with a clutch three to cut the lead to 37-35. After a stop by the Golden Tide, Ty Terry found himself at the free throw line with the chance to send the game into overtime. The sharpshooting Terry sunk the pair of free throws to knot the score at 37 and send the game into overtime.

In overtime, Danny McGarry netted six of his game-high 16 points on two big three pointers to help Curwensville come out on top. McGarry was joined in double-figures by Terry who sunk three, three balls of his own in the game to end with a total of 14 points. Parker Wood also netted double-figures will 11 points on the evening, including a big bucket in overtime to help secure the victory. Rounding out the scoring for Curwensville was Davis Fleming who chipped in four points, and Wassil whose points came on the big three pointer late in the fourth quarter.

The Golden Tide got out to a strong start in the game as they had a 24-14 lead going into the halftime break, but a third quarter in which they managed just four points went a long way in the Rovers mounting a comeback in the second half that saw them take the lead before Curwensville was able to tie it up to force overtime.

Brockway was paced by two double-digit scorers in Marcus Bennett and Jared Marchiori who combined for half of the Rovers points on the evening with 10 points each. Behind them was Aiden Grieneisen and Alex Carlson who each added nine points for the evening. The Rovers also got two points from Noah Adams as he sank a bucket in the game’s opening quarter.
