GRAMPIAN – A former bar/restaurant was completely destroyed by fire Monday afternoon in Grampian.

According to the Rescue Hose & Ladder Company, a working fire was reported at 12:32 p.m. at the former Wildwood Inn Bar and Grill, located at 2489 Curwensville Grampian Hwy., Grampian.

The building was “well-involved” in flames when firefighters arrived on-scene, and they immediately called for a second alarm and assistance from other departments.

A blitz fire and multiple attack lines were employed and once flames were knocked down from the exterior, two crews entered the bar/kitchen area.

“An aggressive fire attack ensued” and it was largely knocked down in the first-floor bar area when EVAC tones were struck as the roof in the dining area had already begun to collapse.

As crews backed out, aerial master stream operations were employed and several mutual aid tankers operated a tanker shuttle to supply water to the scene.

Because a large quantity of water was needed to fight this fire, fill locations were established in both Curwensville and Grampian Boroughs.

The fire was reportedly brought under control within an hour, though extensive overhaul operations followed to ensure hot spots were extinguished. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Rescue Hose & Ladder was assisted by Lawrence Township, Clearfield, Hyde, Grampian Penn Bloom and Mahaffey fire departments.

Brady and Union Township, Houtzdale, Sykesville, Madera, Glen Hope, West Sandy, Oklahoma and Hope fire departments also assisted on-scene, as well as Penelec and PennDOT.
