CLEARFIELD – An Osceola Mills man is facing several charges for allegedly threatening a woman and three others in her vehicle with an axe.
Donald W. Pentland, 43, is charged with four counts each of terroristic threats and harassment, as well as one count of use/possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Oct. 18, Lawrence Township police received a direct call from a woman, saying Pentland had pulled an axe on her.
She said Pentland was in a black, four-door sedan in the area of the Hyde light, and as she traveled down South Second Street near Family Dollar, he stopped and exited his vehicle with an axe.
She said he approached her vehicle, screaming because he believed she’d been following him. She said she fled the area but told police she saw Pentland near the Nicholls Street Sheetz store.
The woman said she suspected Pentland was on drugs. Officer Trevor Pelton and Sgt. Julie Curry responded to the scene, and requested Clearfield Borough police to patrol the area.
On-scene Pelton questioned Pentland about his confrontation with the woman. He said he thought the vehicle traveling behind him was occupied by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.
Because he thought he was being stalked, Pentland said he pulled over in the area of Family Dollar and exited his vehicle with the axe, hollering “why the [expletive] are you following me?”
Then, Pentland said, the woman rolled her window down and when he recognized her, he placed his axe back inside his vehicle. Curry spoke with the woman.
She said she was traveling from Hyde and Pentland was ahead of her when he pulled in near Family Dollar. She said she hesitated but needed to get on Spruce Street.
When she did, she said Pentland got out and began approaching her vehicle holding the axe up over his shoulder.
But she said his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend has a similar Jeep and she thought he’d mistaken her for him. The woman had three others in her vehicle when the confrontation occurred.
She said Pentland got pretty close to the vehicle and said, “I’m going [expletive] kill you.” She said she put her window down, told him no and this is when he put the axe down.
Pelton searched Pentland for additional weapons and the officer reportedly located a multi-colored glass pipe in a front pants pocket.
He declined to let Pelton search his vehicle because there was “a lot of stuff” but not drugs. He was subsequently placed in cuffs and advised he was under arrest.
Pentland is incarcerated in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail and scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3 during centralized court.
