HARRISBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-Bellefonte) issued the following statement Tuesday in reaction to news reports featuring video of an individual stuffing multiple ballots into a drop box in Lackawanna County before the May 2021 Primary Election:

“The video in this case perfectly illustrates the concerns legislators have raised for more than a year about the use of unsecured ballot drop boxes.

“If someone did this on camera in broad daylight, there is no telling what someone might do when proper surveillance is not in place.

“The fact that the sheriff’s office acknowledges they do not have the time or manpower to review this video shows how important it is for the General Assembly and the governor to ensure our election system is secure.

“I am hopeful the individual in the video can be identified so we can find the truth about what happened that day.

“Unfortunately, this is exactly the kind of story that creates mistrust in our voting system. It is critical for lawmakers and the governor to work together to fill the gaps in the system and restore faith in our elections.”
