CLEARFIELD – The Lady Bison continue to play some of their best ball of the season as they took down Holildaysburg 10-0 in six innings to end the regular season on a positive note. The Lady Bison finish the regular season 13-5 overall and have won six straight games heading into the D9 title game being held on Thursday, May 27 in DuBois at Heindl Field at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Bison will take on St. Marys Area High School with the winner advancing to the PIAA state playoffs.
In Friday’s game, the game remained scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth when the Lady Bison struck first with three runs in the inning. Emma Hipps reached on an error to start the rally followed by a double to left by Lauren Ressler who continues to be an extra base machine for the Lady Bison in 2021. Her double plated Hipps to help Clearfield go up 1-0 in the game.
Ressler was eventually replaced at second by Alaina Fedder who doubled to left to make it a 2-0 game in favor of the home team. Alexis Benton was able to help Fedder score next as she reached on an error allowing Fedder to score to make it a three run lead for Clearfield.
Emma Hipps was able to stay in command as she threw another shutout on Friday evening. She was able to keep the momentum on the Lady Bison’s side by getting two of her 10 strikeouts for the game in the top of the fifth inning.
After a three run inning in the fourth, Clearfield continued the offensive showcase in the bottom of the fifth with four runs being added to their credit to go up 7-0 after five full innnings.
The home squad was able to score four runs all with two outs as Hipps singled to start the rally followed by a Ressler single and an error by the right fielder from Holildaysburg to allow Hipps to move to third and Ressler into second to put two in scoring position with two down.
Oliva Bender then reached via and error and Ressler and Hipps came home to make it 6-0. Bender also moved up to second base on the error and Clearfield made Holildaysburg pay as Benton came through with a single to score Bender to make it a seven run lead.
After a relatively smooth sixth from Hipps in the circle, Clearfield added three more runs to secure a win in the sixth inning. With one out, Kylee Hertlein singled and moved to second after Ruby Singleton reached on an error. With two on and one out, Hipps was due up and reached on an error of her own.
The bases to load the bases for Clearfield. Ressler came through again with another hit to plate Hertlein and Singleton and make it a 9-0 Lady Bison advantage. Bender was able to end the game as she hit an infield single that scored Hipps to end the game and make it a 10-0 victory to cap off the 2021 season the Lady Bison.
Some impressive state lines for Clearfield include Ressler’s three-for-four game that included extending her single season program record for doubles mark to 15. She also had three RBI’s and scored two runs.
Fedder finished Friday’s contest with a two-for-three game at the plate with a double and an RBI while her teammate Bender was two-for-four and came through to end the game with the game clinching RBI.
Other hits in the ball game came from Hipps, Benton, and Hertlein who were all able to reach via base hits. Clearfield ace Hipps was able to pick up her 11th win of 2021 and holds an 11-5 record going into postseason play.
