Maryland Man Facing Charges After I-80 Pursuit

An out-of-state man is facing charges after an over 40-mile, high-speed pursuit Tuesday night on Interstate 80 eastbound.

Frederick M. Walls Jr., 22, of Columbia, Md., is charged by Clearfield-based state police with felony fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and receiving stolen property; misdemeanor unauthorized use motor/other vehicles; and 113 summaries.

According to a news release issued by Trooper Todd Shive, a traffic stop was attempted at mile-marker 117. Walls reportedly refused to stop and instead accelerated to speeds of 120-130 miles per hour during the 42-mile pursuit.

Rockview-based troopers deployed a spike strip at mile-marker 158, bringing Walls’ vehicle to a slower speed. He still refused to stop and forced troopers to utilize a pursuit intervention technique with a Clearfield patrol unit.

Once stopped, further investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen out of Bowie, Md. Walls was taken into custody and put in county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail; he’s scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing March 17 during centralized court.
