ST. MARYS – The Elk County Democratic Committee hosted a drive-through food and candidate petition drive event on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 20.
The event was held in the parking lot of St. Marys Insurance on Depot Street. Numerous COVID-19 safety precautions were adhered to both during and after the event.
Dozens of local Democrats came out to sign petitions for local city-wide candidates as well as several state-wide judicial candidates.
In addition, they donated an impressive total of 219 pounds of food that was taken to the Christian Food Bank in St. Marys to help area families in need.
Pictured in the photo holding some of the donated items are Bob Roberts, candidate for St. Marys Mayor (and current council member), “Bud” Bloom, candidate for and current St. Marys City Tax Collector, Shane Schneider and Margie Brown, both candidates for and current St. Marys City Council members.
The committee and its candidates will continue to seek signatures to get on the May 18, 2021 ballot. City candidates need 100 signatures from active registered Democrats that live in the city.
Candidates for local township and borough office need a minimum of 10 signatures to get on the ballot. All signature petition sheets need to be submitted by March 9.
Democrats in Elk County that wish to sign petitions for local and state-wide candidates can reach out to the committee via e-mail to chair@elkdems.com or via phone/text to 814-636-1030.
The committee will put voters in touch with the candidates who will continue to follow safety protocols when engaging with voters.
