CURWENSVILLE – In Moshannon Valley League (MVL) action on Saturday afternoon in Curwensville, the Golden Tide avenged an earlier loss this season to Harmony with a 53-51 win. It was the second straight win for Curwensville on the year.
The Owls won the first meeting between the two schools on January 23, 60-46, at Harmony.
Head Coach Matt Wassil of the Golden Tide said after the game, “This was one of those back and forth games the whole way because both teams are even.”
Curwensville held a three point edge after the first quarter 13-10, but Harmony owned the second stanza 17-14, that knotted the battle at 27-27 at the halftime break.
With an 11-9 advantage in the third eight minutes the Owls took a two point margin into the final quarter at 38-36.
The Golden Tide picked up its third win of the year thanks to a 17-13 fourth quarter edge in the MVL game.
Sophomore Danny McGarry had a big day, leading the Golden Tide with 19 points that included 4 three-pointers which was well noted by Wassil, who stated, “Danny (McGarry) found his shots today and he was willing to take them, and that was the difference in this game today.”
The Tide had two others in double figures as Ty Terry dumped in 14 points with Trevor Lansberry adding another 10.
Curwensville made nine three pointers in the game and also hit on 10 of 15 free throws.
The Owls were paced by Anthony Maseto with 17 tallies followed by 14 from Jack Bracken.
There was no junior varsity game.
The Golden Tide (3-9) are part of a Monday night doubleheader at Patton Hall in Curwensville starting at 6:30 pm with the Curwensville girls hosting the Harmony Lady Owls and then the Golden Tide playing visiting St. Joe’s Catholic Academy out of Boalsburg at approximately 8 pm.
