Sandy Twp. Continues Discussion on Consolidation

New details for the public consolidation discussion meeting were revealed at Monday’s Sandy Township meeting.  The meeting will have a single location.  Previously the Township had been considering a main location and a second location where the public could go to have a unified remote participation experience.

There will be three options for the March 16h meeting:

Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh said that there will be a meeting over the weekend to go over comments both board and consolidation committee members had with the study.

The Township Supervisors voted to begin work on creating a new pension for all Township employees and Supervisors.

“It’ll be open to all employees.  Even part-time employees,” said Arbaugh.

The new pension would not cost the Township any money until 2024.  Then the cost would be limited to paying for the wire transfer fees.  This was stated to be around $124 a year.

May 3rd is the target date for Sandy Township to switch to automatic garbage containers.  Mailers will be sent to Township residents explaining on how to pick their size, how to get additional garbage cans, and how to upgrade to bear grade locks if they so choose.

The Township will investigate designating official Township towing companies.  These would just be the first companies for the Township to call if the Township needed a vehicle towed or a citizen asked the Township to assist in getting a vehicle towed.  Citizens will still be able to call a towing company of their own choice.

The given reason for this by Arbaugh were complaints from Township Citizens and local towing companies.  Arbaugh said the towing companies said they were lacking work and citizens were not happy with the prices they were paying under the current system.
