At the Clearfield County Prison Board meeting Tuesday the board members heard some updates regarding inmate health.

Through January there had been 10 inmates diagnosed with COVID-19, however, as of the meeting there was only inmate still infected, according to an email from Warden David Kessling, who was unable to attend the meeting.

Five corrections officers were also out with the disease and all but one have returned. The fifth officer will return Sunday.

Commissioner David Glass commended the warden and staff for measures implemented to control the spread of COVID at the jail, which would have kept the infections at a minimum.

There have also been considerably fewer inmates at the jail. January began with only 110 inmates, with 44 committed and 35 released, ending the month with 118 and 42 on home detention.

Under extraordinary occurrences in the warden’s report, there were two mental health 304 commitments.

The board considered discussion on a possible processing fee, but agreed to table the matter until next month when the warden can be present.
