Clearfield- Clearfield Municipal Authority held a short meeting Tuesday and discussed well re-certification and some other items.
Engineer Jim Balliet of Gwin, Dobson & Foreman Inc. reminded the board of discussion of well No. one at Montgomery Dam.
A letter was received from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission stating the well needs to be re-permitted, however because of the water quality of the well, CMA requested to be allowed to keep the well online until work on Montgomery Dam is finished, and then the well will be abandoned.
SRBC has notified CMA of the need to re-permit wells four and five, only this time Balliet said they should have the work done because the water quality of the wells is good, and they might be needed when Montgomery is taken off line.
The wells are in the same aquifer as the Moose Creek well and run at 500 gallons per minute between them. The water is good, but the wells haven’t been needed in a long time.
Balliet said the permit ensures that if the wells are used, they won’t negatively affect the environment, so they undergo a 72 hour pump test with local streams and wells being monitored, and the testing can be expensive.
Balliet has requested a quote on the cost of testing and will bring that information to the board at a later date.
The board also learned that the new billing system will go live in May and there may be a few days of transition with operations slowing until the transfer is complete.
Also, Solicitor John Ryan will be contacting Lawrence Township regarding the agreement to take over the sewer lines. The draft agreements were given to the township and borough Dec. 11 and CMA has yet to hear from the township.
