CURWENSVILLE – On January 18th of this year the Sheffield boys stopped the Curwensville Golden Tide in boys basketball 55-33 on the Wolverines’ home floor.
On Friday night the two squads met again, but this time on the Curwensville home court, and when the dust settled it was the Golden Tide breaking a seven game losing streak, beating the Wolverines 46-32.
To make the win even sweeter for Curwensville it came on Senior Night, as the Tide honored Scott Condon, Mike Lezzer and Trevor Lansberry.
After an eight to eight tie game at the end of the first quarter, Curwensville made its move, winning the second eight minutes 11-4 to take a 19-12 halftime lead.
The Golden Tide then returned for second half action and once again outscored Sheffield 27-20 to pick up its second win of the year.
Curwensville head coach Matt Wassil was pleased and happy with the win, but especially for his three seniors, saying afterwards, “Our defensive effort for all four quarters was outstanding tonight and that made the difference. It was just a great effort on Senior Night to get the win for our three seniors.”
Ty Terry had 20 points for the Tide followed by 12 from Trevor Lansberry.
Sheffield had Tyler Hepinger with 10 tallies.
It was the fourth straight night that the Curwensville boys laced up their footwear to do battle.
In JV action the Tide took down the Wolverines by a score of 23-20. High scorer for the Golden Tide was Landon Swatsworth with nine points.
The Tide (2-9) have a home game on Monday night against the Bison of Clearfield. The two teams played in January with Clearfield getting the best of the Tide, 85-22.
