AMESVILLE – With hot shooting from junior Ty Terry and an overall dedication to defense, the Curwensville boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season Wednesday night, against Moshannon Valley, 69-47, on the Black Knights’ home court.
Terry, connecting on nine three pointers, had a 40 point evening.
Tide Head Coach Matt Wassil said afterwards, “A couple of things enabled us to win tonight and the first one was Ty’s (Terry) terrific shooting and our intensity on defense. We picked up momentum off of Ty, and our defense was engaged all night as we never trailed.
The Tide easily took the first eight minutes, 22-8, with the Black Knights winning the second stanza 19-14. Still, at the intermission, Curwensville had a nine point edge, 36-27.
Curwensville left no doubt who was in charge of this game, as it outscored Moshannon Valley 33-20 in the second 16 minutes to secure the Moshannon Valley League (MVL) victory.
Trevor Lansberry also had double figures for the Tide with 16.
Moshannon Valley had two players in double figures as Trey Lyon had 16 while Samuel Howard added 11.
The Golden Tide ended the evening with 12 treys.
Curwensville also won the JV game 46-23 as Ty Lee had 13 points and Jason Rowles added a dozen for the Golden Tide.
The Tide (1-2) were to travel to Brockway on Friday to play the Rovers but that game has now been cancelled with no make up date at this time.
So for Curwensville it will be a Saturday afternoon trip to play Harmony in MVL action.
