Sandy Twp.: Officials Planning Public Meetings on Proposed Consolidation in Mid-March

DUBOIS – Public meetings on the proposed consolidation of Sandy Township and DuBois City are being scheduled for mid-March.

Possible dates will be sometime March 16-18, beginning at 6 p.m., with a meeting location yet to be determined.

At Monday night’s supervisors’ meeting, Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh said they would like to have plans to safely hold 200 people with hopes that 50 people attend.

He said the township has contacted Penn State DuBois and DuBois Area School District with no success, which he believed is due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Supervisor Jim Jeffers suggested that the joint committee have two separate meetings – one for each municipality. However, Supervisor Kevin Salandra said he’d prefer to hold them together.

The supervisors discussed other meeting location options, such as local hotels as well as the former Sears store at the DuBois Mall. Teleconferencing was also discussed.

Arbaugh said both Sandy Township and DuBois City have received copies of the consolidation study. He said currently they’re having some numerical figures and other issues corrected before it’s available to the public.

Additionally, he said they would like to have executive summaries available for anyone who doesn’t have time to review the full study. He said they expect to release the study in early March.
