Penns Valley Doubles up Lady Bison

SPRING MILLS — The first Friday of the 2021 season for the Clearfield Lady Bison meant a second consecutive road trip. It was a trip eastward to Spring Mills to face off with the Lady Rams of Penns Valley.

The chill in the air outside followed onto the hardwood as the Lady Bison were cold from the floor, and could not keep up with their opposition. In the end, Penns Valley doubled up on the night as they would hand Clearfield its first loss of the season, 52-26, evening the Lady Bison record at 1-1.

Clearfield’s highlight was the play of Emma Hipps, as she led all scoring despite being on the losing side of the score, as she accounted for 19 points on the night. But, the Lady Bison had early trouble as they fell behind after the first quarter, 13-5, but then dug into a deeper hole in the second quarter as Penns Valley drained 18 points in eight minutes, while holding Clearfield to only six.

Penns Valley had four scorers in double figures, as Leah Beben led the team with 13 points, while Avery Dinges, Katie Romig, and Kailen Winkleblech all added in 10 a piece.

Clearfield has little time to rest as they are immediately back in competition for a rare Saturday contest, but this one will be the first home contest inside the Bison Gym as they continue Mountain League play against the Lady Mounties of Philipsburg-Osceola. Tip-Off is a 3:30 p.m. matinee.
