Clearfield Bison Wrestlers Open Season With Win Over Brockway

BROCKWAY — The Clearfield Bison wrestling team opened the crazy covid wrestling season on the road at Brockway High School on Thursday night and came away with a 48-6 rout of their hosts.

Clearfield freshman Carter Chamberlain got a rude awakening at 172 poundsin his first ever varsity match when he had to face off with Rover senior Noah Bash, a returning District 9 AA runner-up coming off of a 27 win season. Bash picked up a fall at the 3:45 mark, giving Brockway a short lived 6-0 lead in the team score.

Those would be the last points the Rovers would put on the scoreboard.

The Bison would pick up four forfeits (Nick Domico at 215, Oliver Billotte at 285, Camden Gormont at 145, and Wyatt Reoda at 152), four regular decisions (Mark McGonigal at 189, Nolan Barr at 126, Will Domico at 138, and Karson Kline at 160) and two falls (Evan Davis at 106 and Justin Hand at 132).

Returning two-time state qualifier for the Bison, McGonigal got the Bison on the board with a 14-9 win which featured three last period takedowns.

After Nick Domico and Billotte picked up their forfeits, Davis picked up where he left off last season by picking up a first period fall.

Neither team was able to fill the 113 or 120 spots, so next up was Barr at 126. Down 5-0 at one point, Barr used a third period reversal to complete a 7-6 comeback win.

Hand joined Davis with a first period fall before Bison freshman Will Domico made his varsity debut a successful one with a 5-2 win.

Gormont and Reoda then picked up their easy wins before Kline, who was down 3-2 at one point, went on to a 10-5 win to close out the meet.

The Bison (1-0) will return to the mats on Saturday when the go to Bellefonte and participate in a Mountain League quad meet with the hosts, the Tyrone Golden Eagles, and the Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties.
