CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Police Department is alerting Clearfield area residents to a mail/check scam.
According to police, on Jan. 4, a concerned citizen reported he’d received several checks in the mail in the amount of $3,500 each from People’s Bank of Commerce and Copeland Sand & Gravel Inc.
He said he was directed to cash the checks, but in order to receive the money, he must disclose personal information. Upon further investigation, police confirmed the account was closed.
Police would like to remind residents not to provide any personal information to unknown agencies.
