Coalport Man Allegedly Found with Crystal Meth During Home Visit Waives Hearing

CLEARFIELD – A Coalport man is facing felony drug charges following an incident in Lawrence Township in October.

Austin Michael Lee Mullan, 27, is charged by Officer Jonathan C. Walker of the Lawrence Township police with felony intentional possession of a controlled substance, manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, person not to possess, use, etc. firearms and receiving stolen property.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Mike Morris, on Oct. 14, police were requested to assist Clearfield County Probation at a residence in the 2600 block of Montgomery Run Road. Probation officers had recovered a firearm.

At the scene, Walker learned probation was there on a home visit. When the officers knocked, they reportedly heard someone exit the rear of the trailer and the rattling of a chain-link fence; when an officer checked the rear area, they found the back door was open.

In addition, they found a loaded 9mm handgun and numerous baggies of crystal methamphetamine. Walker photographed and secured the evidence, which probation officers reportedly found in Mullan’s coat. The handgun was later found to have been stolen from the Coalport area.

As Walker conducted a search of the area for Mullan, he was contacted by the Clearfield County 911 Center, which reported Mullan had returned to the trailer. Upon return to the scene, Walker observed Mullan through a side window, entered the back door and detained him.

Mullan reportedly commented that he wanted to “take the hit” for being in possession of the drugs and gun. He went on to say: “that’s not too much for drugs, right,” with regards to the amount he had (15.68 grams). Walker alerted the dispatcher that Mullan was in custody and he was turned over to probation.

Mullan waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court. His bail is currently set at $100,000 monetary.
