Sullivan Charged Following Police Pursuit

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man is facing charges for allegedly fleeing from Lawrence Township police while driving under the influence on Dec. 15.

Michael P. Sullivan, 36, is charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, misdemeanor resisting arrest, DUI/controlled substance, recklessly endangering another person and accidents involving damage to attended vehicle/property, plus 10 summaries.

According to the police report, a traffic stop was attempted on a black Suzuki motorcycle on the Clearfield-Shawville Highway. However, its driver – later identified as Sullivan – fled at a high rate of speed down Bigler Avenue and Third Street in downtown Clearfield.

The pursuit continued out to the Glen Richey Highway into Olanta and to Route 453, at which point police say Sullivan turned and traveled by the Dam Inn into the south side of Curwensville.

There, he sped through the borough, leading police up Filbert Street and by Starr Hill Winery before continuing through the Bailey Settlement area to Washington Avenue.

Police were able to “box in” Sullivan’s motorcycle at the Checkerboard Bridge, and he was taken into custody without injury. He was suspected of being under the influence and transported to Penn Highlands Clearfield for a legal blood draw.

Police were assisted by officers from the Clearfield and Curwensville Borough police departments and Clearfield-based state police.

Sullivan was arraigned at 3:15 p.m. Dec. 15, and lodged in county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He’s scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 21.
