High Voter Turnout
Clearfield County has 49,714 total registered voters, and of those, 38,662 ballots were cast Tuesday for a voter turnout of 77.77 percent.
The county issued 9,764 mail ballots and as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, 8,530 had been returned to the Election & Voter Registration office, according to Election Director Dawn Graham.
“… I think those who didn’t return their ballots actually went to the polls,” Graham said, adding that voter turnout was high. “Everyone I’ve talked to was busy.”
Despite the high voter turnout throughout the day and long lines at many precincts at 8 p.m., Commissioner John A. Sobel said Election Day went “surprisingly” smooth.
“Everyone was cool, calm and collected,” Sobel said. “… We only had to call out the sheriff’s department for traffic control – simply because there were that many voters, which was great.
“But everyone was well-behaved and patient, and that’s a credit to how seriously our citizens here in Clearfield County take voting.”
