On the night of Sept. 21, DuBois Central Catholic seniors, their parents and administrators, gathered on the soccer field to recognize senior athletes and to give the senior class the opportunity to light lanterns and send them into the sky for good luck going into the new school year.  Despite the pandemic, tradition needed to be preserved.

The evening began with Mrs. Carol Korthaus, DCC instructor and emcee.  Mrs. Korthaus welcomed everyone and announced the athletes and their families as she gave them each a rose.  After the athletes were announced, pizza and cake were served.

As the sun set, students got into pairs and lit their lanterns.  Students celebrated as their lanterns floated into the sky.

“I’m very happy to be able to take part in this event,” said senior Beth Williams. “I’m thankful that even during the pandemic, we could still gather and celebrate our class.”  The night turned out to be a huge success.

Senior athletes who were honored included: Girls Soccer – Chelsea Busatto; Boys Soccer – Isaac Gray, Ethan Kness, Alex Jenkins, Lenny Swisher, Cade Peck, and Harrison Starr; Boys Golf – Zach Spellen, Dante Armanini, Harrison Starr; Girl’s Golf – Maria Werner; Volleyball – Erin Maloney; Cross Country – Michaela Armanini, JoAnne Case, Beth Williams, Isaac Bloom, JP Piccirillo, Dante Armanini; and Football – Tanner Morelli, Loren Way and Ethan Kness.
