Programs Scheduled for Sept. 10-12 at Parker Dam

PENFIELD – Staff members at the Parker Dam State Park have announced the schedule of programs for Sept. 10-12.

Thursday, Sept. 10 

Logslide—Stumpfield Hike: 

10 a.m. – Campground Host Site (#107)

Enjoy this wooded hike on the Logslide Trail, and then connect to the Stumpfield Trail via an old gas line.

Friday, Sept. 11

PA Black Bear: 

2 p.m. – Beach House steps

In the Keystone State, Black bears have coexisted with humans for centuries.  Come learn more about this highly adapted species of wildlife and how they survive in Penn’s Woods.

On the Wings of a Monarch: 

8 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater 

This in-depth look at the Monarch butterfly’s fascinating life cycle, its habitats, and its North American migration will amaze you.

Saturday, Sept. 12

Trail of New Giants/Vista Trail Hike: 

10 a.m. – outside CCC Museum

Enjoy this hike to the high point of the park, where you can overlook Parker Lake and the surrounding Moshannon State Forest.  Please wear appropriate footwear.

Learn Your Leaves Walk: 

2 p.m. – outside Park Office

Soon they will be gone, but the leaves on trees are an easy way to identify different species.  Come along and learn some of the many tree species found in the park by looking at the characteristics of their leaves.

Things Naturalists Do: 

8 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater 

Catch crayfish, pet bees, mess with moths.  All that and more.  Learn some of the quirky things that people like park naturalists do to entertain themselves.

Note to visitors attending educational and interpretive programs at the park:  Program attendees are advised that they must wear face coverings, social distancing will be required during the program, and total attendance will be limited to 25.  Your cooperation is appreciated.
