CLEARFIELD – One of the suspects in the 2017 killing of Chase Anderson of Curwensville is now being accused of assaulting a corrections officer at the Clearfield County Jail.

Denny S. Bailey, 40, is charged by Officer Zachary Cowan of the Lawrence Township police with felony aggravated assault-attempts to cause or causes bodily injury to designated individuals.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Bailey assaulted the victim Aug. 31, 2018 when he worked as a CO at the jail. It occurred after the officer asked Bailey to leave the law library.

Bailey reportedly refused and also to follow commands, prompting the response of several other COs. Several said Bailey called the victim a liar and attempted to lunge across the table at him.

Per jail policy, he was assisted to the ground and placed in shackles to secure his “agitated behavior.” And Bailey allegedly head-butted the victim in the face, resulting in mouth injuries.

Bailey’s assault case was held to county court for further disposition following a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court at the jail.
